Hire an Intern

If you’re looking for a graduate student to help enhance your organization’s team, our Graduate Student Internship Program (GSIP) can help — regardless of sector.

Our internship placements are highly flexible and can be customized to suit the needs of both employers and students. And since applications are ongoing, all you need to do is contact the GSIP Advisor to create and post a job placement opportunity.

Benefits for Employers

  • Flexibility
  • Support from and connection to the University of Alberta
  • Access to hardworking, driven, curious, resourceful and intelligent students
  • The opportunity to mentor and get to know the next-generation workforce

Create an Internship

Follow these steps to create an internship for GSIP:

Step 1: Ensure your organization can meet GSIP standards

Employers are expected to:

  • Create a meaningful work placement, allowing the intern to use and develop clearly defined professional skills
  • Pay the intern a suggested minimum of $25/hour
  • Assign an internship supervisor to provide guidance, support and feedback to the intern throughout the internship
  • Participate in assessment activities with GSIP staff to evaluate the placement and program
Step 2: Contact the GSIP Advisor

We want to ensure your internship opportunity is developed such that both you and the graduate student you hire benefit from the experience. To create a graduate student internship, please contact:

Step 3: Post the position on campusBRIDGE

campusBRIDGE provides a single source for employers to post jobs (permanent, summer, and temporary), co-op positions, internships and practicum opportunities for U of A students and alumni at no cost. GSIP employers should post graduate-student opportunities on the GSIP-specific job board.

You’ll be sent instructions on how to post on the GSIP job board. Instructions are also available on the GSIP section of campusBRIDGE.

Funding

GSIP funding is intended to give graduate students access to new work experience opportunities and help bridge the gap between academic studies and the workplace.

The GSIP wage subsidy is not currently available. However, our staff can point you to other potential sources for internship funding.

If you have any questions about funding for a particular position, contact the GSIP Advisor.
