I am a first year student in the Master of Science in Surgery program.

What are you researching and what do you hope comes out of your research?

My research focuses on children with unilateral vocal cord paralysis after heart surgery.

How does presenting a Three Minute Thesis (3MT) help you to explain your research to the public?

3MT helps me gain confidence talking about my topic and teaches me how to explain a complicated topic to people from any field.

What inspires you to do research?

I love to learn and feel like I am helping people. Research allows me to learn, create and find solutions to problems that can help people in many ways.

What are three key words important to your 3MT?

Children, surgery, voice

How does your research impact local, provincial, or global communities?

My research impacts children with this condition by providing information to doctors, surgeons and other health care providers. It will spread awareness and hopefully aid in the implementation of protocols to help diagnose and treat this condition earlier.

If you had to dedicate your research to anyone from the past, present, or future, who would it be and why?

I would dedicate my research to my mom because she always pushes me to think critically and stay curious.
