Using Small Molecule Drugs to Stop the Spread of Cancer

Introduce yourself

I'm a second year Master's student. I completed my BS (Hons.) Biochemistry from Pakistan. In my spare time, I love reading books and spending time with friends.

What are you researching and what do you hope comes out of your research?

My research focuses on developing small molecule inhibitors for TIM-3. We are expecting that small molecule inhibitors will offer novel treatment options for various diseases, including cancer.

How does presenting a Three Minute Thesis (3MT) help you to explain your research to the public?

It gave me a better understanding of my project, and I also learned how to convey my ideas to the public without using technical terms and complex terminologies.

What inspires you to do research?

Problem-solving, innovation and curiosity

What are three key words important to your 3MT?

TIM-3, Small molecules, Cancer

How does your research impact local, provincial, or global communities?

My research is to find small molecule inhibitors that will stop the spread of cancer in the body. It will help in curing cancer more effectively and efficiently in local, provincial and global communities.

If you had to dedicate your research to anyone from the past, present, or future, who would it be and why?

My parents and my supervisor Dr. Khaled Barakat because they always guided me.
