International students enrich our campus community, and we can’t wait to meet you!
New international students need health insurance, an ID card or driver’s licence and practical tips to be successful. Participate in the U of A’s International Student Orientation activities so that you are ready to start your new life in Canada.
Pre-Departure Orientation | End of May, June and July | Online Sessions
Register for one of our online sessions to better understand what you need to prepare as you plan for your new life in Alberta.
Parent Info Session | July 3 and August 10 | Online
The online Parent Info Session is an opportunity for parents and guardians to learn about the various services available to help support you throughout your time at the U of A.
Social Insurance Number (SIN) Clinic | August 27 - 30 | 9 am - 4 pm | Telus Centre
Service Canada will be on-site at Telus Centre so that you can register for your Social Insurance Number (SIN) card. Bring your immigration documents and get it done right on campus. The SIN is a government-issued number that is legally required for all workers in Canada and for people to access government services.
International Student Orientation: Canada A to Zed | August 29
Attend the international student in-person orientation session to connect with staff and other international students. Join the International Student and Visitor Services team for some light refreshments and interactive fun.
Campus Check-In | August 15, 18, 22, 25, 29 - September 1, 5, 8 | Telus Centre
Campus Check-In: Your first stop on campus! When you first arrive on campus, make sure you visit Campus Check-In, where you can:
- Apply for health care
- Get your social insurance number so that you can work while you study
- Discover banking options and phone plans
- Learn how to navigate campus and the city
- Explore Edmonton and more
InfoMart | August 29 | 12 pm - 4 pm | Telus Centre
Meet your international student advisors, and connect with campus services and Edmonton businesses to discover U of A resources, supports, services, student groups, libraries, Chaplains and more.
International BBQ | August 29 | 12 pm - 4 pm | Telus Centre
Outside of InfoMart at the back of the Telus Centre, enjoy a taste of the world at the International BBQ served by student groups from diverse cultures on campus.
