Observatory Summer Hours: Solar observing on Thursdays from 12 noon to 1 pm

The Department of Physics Astronomical Observatory is located on the West end of the 5th floor of the Centennial Centre for Interdisciplinary Science on the main campus of the University of Alberta. Click here for directions.

Summer Hours

During the spring and summer (May to August) we do not hold regular evening observing sessions, due to the very late sunset time. We will occasionally hold evening observing sessions during the summer if the conditions look good, and these special observing sessions will be announced on Facebook and Twitter. During the summer we will still be open so that you can observe the Sun on Thursdays from 12-1pm. Whenever we are open, you are also welcome to take a look at our meteorite collection.

Group Visits

School groups and other education-oriented groups can book a private visit. These visits are free of charge. Please contact us at least one month before your anticipated visit date since there is high demand for these visits and we have limited availability.

Teachers should note that the Sky Scan outreach program is designed to help bring real science activities to Grade 6 and 9 science classes.
