So all you want to study is mathematics? That's fine by us: just like you do, we see the beauty in all of mathematics, and we want to give you the opportunity to experience as much of it as possible.

Our programs have plenty of flexibility built into them, so you can steer your studies in the direction you are most passionate about, including:

Pure and Applied Mathematics

Many people refer to these programs as programs in pure mathematics, as distinguished from applied mathematics. Although pure mathematics often derives its inspiration from physical ideas and its results frequently find extraordinarily important applications in other areas of science and technology (sometimes many, many years later), it is primarily pursued by those who are fascinated by its wealth of wonderful ideas and its perfection of detail.

The division between pure and applied mathematics is not well defined, and many students choose to develop skills in both areas. Many of the most famous mathematicians were (and are) deeply committed to both aspects.

Most pure mathematicians are employed by universities, colleges, and research institutes, although an increasing number also branch out into the commercial sectors (especially financial/market analysis and computing), where their ability to isolate, abstract, and formulate the essence of a problem is considered an invaluable skill.

Degree options in Mathematics are as follows:

Honors in Mathematics:

Major in Mathematics:

  • Most students obtain a Major in Mathematics as a BSc through the Faculty of Science. 
  • Download the program planner for this degree program
  • It is possible to obtain this degree as a BA. A Major in Mathematics through the Faculty of Arts.
  • This program was previously offered as a BSc Specialization in Mathematics. Students in the BSc Specialization in Mathematics can finish their degrees, but we do not admit new students into the BSc Specialization program. Instead, students shall consider the BSc Major in Mathematics.

Minor in Mathematics:

  • A minor in Mathematics offers students a foundational understanding of mathematical concepts and problem-solving techniques, complementing their primary area of study.
