9.8 Reasonable Accommodation Policy

Departments and the Faculty of Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies (GPS) sometimes need to accommodate graduate students who are disadvantaged; for example, a student in the lab who because of a medical condition cannot use certain equipment or otherwise meet normal program requirements. In most instances, GPS and/or departments are already making these accommodations informally to the mutual advantage of all parties. In some circumstances, departments and graduate students may wish to have more information about the responsibilities of the department, GPS, and the student and to establish a more formal record of the accommodation. University guidance on the duty to accommodate can be found in the University's Discrimination, Harassment and Duty to Accommodate policy, available online on UAPPOL's website.
