Arts Work Experience Program
Overview
The Arts Work Experience (AWE) Program gives Arts undergraduate students the opportunity to further develop and integrate the skills gained in the classroom with a full-time, paid work experience position. These positions can be 4, 8, 12 or 16 monthsand start in September, January or May of each year. Students registered in the AWE Program will have access to a selection of mandatory and optional career education sessions developed and delivered by CAPS: Your U of A Career Centre.

Eligibility
Open to undergraduate students in the Faculty of Arts who have completed a minimum of 60 credits and have a minimum GPA of 2.3. Students may apply to the AWE program before they have achieved 60 credits and have their application held until the eligible amount of credits are completed. 

How to Apply:

Learn about the Arts Work Experience Program.  Attend an information session, meet with the Arts Career Development Officer, or review details found here. If you would like more information about the program, please email amber.nicholson@ualberta.ca.   

Complete the AWE Program Application Form. Application and detailed program information available for pick up at the HUB Career Centre (8917 HUB Mall).

Book meeting with Arts Career Development Officer. At this meeting you will learn more about the program and have an opportunity to discuss your areas of employment interest. If you are accepted into the program, the CDO will forward your file to Undergraduate Student Services for a program check and final acceptance. 

Payment of fees. Once you receive your final acceptance into the program, your program fees are due (outlined below). Fees are payable to the 'University of Alberta'. Tuition fees are only charged once a work experience position is secured. Note: Tuition for national and international students varies, please see the Career Development Officer for details. 

Suggested Application Deadlines

  • May 31 to start in September
  • September 30 for a January start
  • January 31 for a May start

Fees

  • Program Fee $200 
    *These fees are due after final acceptance into the Work Experience Program and are non-refundable. If you are not successful in securing a work experience position, you will still have access to the career education component of the AWE Program.
  • Tuition for registration in WKEXP courses and non-instructional fees (see Arts Career Development Office for international student fees)
    *Tuition is charged once position is secured.
