Application Information

1. Current U of A students must submit the following documentation:
  • Cortona application form (see below)

  • One reference form (see below). Your reference can be anyone who can fill out the information on the form. Previous students have used professors, employers, high school teachers, coaches or anyone else you feel would be a good reference for you. If you have questions about this, please email us at: cortona@ualberta.ca.

NOTE: Open Studies students cannot apply to Fall or Winter in Cortona because the minimum course weight registration must be 9 units (Open Studies students can only carry a maximum of 6 units). Open Studies students are welcome to register for the Spring term.

2. Former U of A students (applying as a Special Student) must submit the following documentation:
  • Cortona application form (see below)

  • One reference form (see below). Your reference can be anyone who can fill out the information on the form. Previous students have used professors, employers, high school teachers, coaches or anyone else you feel would be a good reference for you. If you have questions about this, please email us at: cortona@ualberta.ca.

  • U of A Application for Admission and Readmission or Internal Transfer form and $75 application fee (see below)

  • Official transcripts if you have attended any other post-secondary institution since last being registered at the U of A


3. Students from other Universities (planning to transfer credit from Cortona courses to a home institution) must submit the following documentation:
  • Cortona application form (see below)

  • One reference form (see below). Your reference can be anyone who can fill out the information on the form. Previous students have used professors, employers, high school teachers, coaches or anyone else you feel would be a good reference for you. If you have questions about this, please email us at: cortona@ualberta.ca.

  • U of A Application for Admission and Readmission or Internal Transfer form – check off “Visiting Student” – and $115 application fee (see below)

  • Letter of Permission from home institution

  • Official transcripts from home institution as well as any from any other post-secondary institutions attended

Because applications for Cortona students are handled separately from regular admissions, please DO NOT apply on-line; this will avoid confusion and help to expedite the processing of your application.

All application and reference forms for the School in Cortona can be submitted online by filling out the PDF forms and emailing them directly to: cortona@ualberta.ca. You can also download and print the PDF versions.

Application and reference forms can also be found in the Cortona Calendar, which is available on campus at 6-5 Humanities Centre. If you would prefer to have a Cortona Calendar mailed to you, please send your mailing address to cortona@ualberta.ca.

Application deadlines are:

  • June 16, 2014 for the Fall term
  • September 15, 2014 for the Winter term
