Anthropology Library Guide

A guide to the key anthropology resources available from the library, including database and journal subscriptions, reference works, new acquisitions, and tips on using the library catalogue. This guide is maintained and updated regularly by the Liaison Librarian for the Department of Anthropology, who is able to provide reference and instruction services to students and faculty in the department.

 

Bruce Peel Special Collections Library

The Bruce Peel Special Collections Library is located in the lower level of the Rutherford South. It houses over 100,000 rare and unusual volumes. Among many specialties, It includes the Gregory Javitch Collection on North and South American aboriginal peoples, offering perspectives on their legends, ceremonial dances, music, and daily lives.

 

Bryan-Gruhn Library collection

The Bryan/Gruhn Anthropology Library is a very large collection of books and journals in general anthropology (including archaeology, physical anthropology, linguistic anthropology, and cultural anthropology) and related disciplines (paleoenvironmental studies, sociology, history, and travel). Prominent collections include publications on the archaeology and ethnology of North America, Mesoamerica, and South America. Canadian Circumpolar Collection

The Canadian Circumpolar Collection is a world-class specialized and distinct reference centre for materials on Northern Canada and an outstanding collection for circumpolar research. The boundaries of the collection are geographic with an emphasis on the North American arctic and sub-arctic regions. It is a multidisciplinary collection of materials. Subjects covered include, but are not limited to, peoples of the north, health, education, religion, government, land claims, land use, environmental concerns, mining, and engineering.
